Bare Bones Basic Soap

The Bare Bones Basic Soap (BBBS) journey started in the Mountains of Northern Idaho with the simple belief that better soap comes from a more basic soap. No scents, no flowers, no essentiasl oils of any kind.

So we use the minimum ingredients necessary to make a handmade soap that lathers well, cleans well and most importantly rinses thoroughly and completly without drying your skin. Isn't that what a soap "should" do?

The ingredients in Bare Bones Basic Soap (nothing animal based):
  • Olive Oil ~ for moisturizing
  • Shea Butter ~ for moisturizing
  • Coconut Oil ~ for a good lather
  • Palm Oil ~ for a firm bar
  • Sodium Hydroxide (aka lye) ~ necessary for "Saponification"
  • Well Water ~ with very low mineral content
Saponification is an exothermic chemical reaction that occurs when fats or oils (fatty acids) come into contact with lye, a base. In this reaction, the triglyceride units of fats react with sodium hydroxide (for hard soap) or potassium hydroxide (for liquid soap) and are converted to soap.
